The Neusa reservoir is a great source of water supply for Cundinamarca, it supplies the Cogua and Zipaquirá aqueducts; besides supplying, other important functions are flood control and flow regulation in the Neusa river basin during dry seasons. The construction of this reservoir began in 1948, and was carried out by the firm Winston Brothers & Company. In addition to its important environmental functions, the Neusa Reservoir has become a tourist attraction because of its charming landscape, its diversity of fauna and flora and the many plans that can be carried out.

HOW TO GET TO THE NEUSA RESERVOIR?

The Neusa reservoir is located in the municipality of Tausa (Cundinamarca), 67 kilometers northwest of Bogotá, in the eastern mountain range. To reach the Neusa reservoir, first you must reach the Transmilenio North portal and take a bus to Zipaquirá. At the Zipaquirá transport terminal you can take a bus directly to the entrance of the reservoir. The trip takes about an hour and a half.

To take into account: the opening hours of the reservoir are from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm from Tuesday to Sunday and on Monday holidays.

GEOGRAPHY AND CLIMATE IN THE NEUSA RESERVOIR

The Neusa reservoir is located at an altitude of 3000 meters above sea level, has 13,500 square kilometers of area, 900 hectares; and presents an average temperature of 10°C. There are two winter seasons in this region, the first from April to June, and the second in October and November. It is recommended to wear very warm clothes. If you are going camping, a good option is to take supplies to prepare a fire, gloves, hat and blankets to spend a pleasant night.

ATTRACTIONS IN NEUSA

Neusa’s reservoir has an unparalleled tourist attraction, its fauna and flora make it very visited at all times of the year. It is a site near Bogota, easily accessible, which offers the possibility of camping because it has approximately 14 square kilometers of area for camping. The reservoir has a large amount of fish so fishing is always a good option, and besides, it is allowed.

WHAT TO DO IN NEUSA?

Besides camping, this park offers different options, among them, spending the night in dream cabins with a panoramic view of the dam, it is advisable to book in advance. You can also have a family picnic day, since you will find grills and kitchens in the camping areas. On the other hand, the reservoir is suitable for fishing and boat rides (for these spaces we recommend that you refer to the administration). In turn, you can take a pleasant ecological walk through the park’s facilities.

GASTRONOMY IN NEUSA

The Neusa Reservoir has a variety of aquatic species, for example, the Trout. The most coveted dish in the four restaurants that operate within the park is the Salmonade Trout.

HOTELS AND CAMPING IN NEUSA

The Neusa reservoir is well known for its transit of campers, the main attraction of this park are the areas it offers for camping, this camping area is divided into two areas known as Laurels and Chapinero. There you will be able to acquire your tent, in case you do not have one.

The park is so complete that in addition to the camping areas it offers you its Hotel Mirador Del Neusa, which is clearly located inside the park with a wonderful view of the dam and the prices are affordable.
