The hills of Mavecure are a tourist destination that until a couple of years ago was little known, its fame began to grow thanks to the Colombian film nominated for the Oscar El Abrazo de la Serpiente that was filmed in this jungle and that made known the beauty and exoticity of this area of the country.

HOW TO GET TO THE MAVECURE HILLS, GUAINÍA?

The Mavecure Hills are located in the department of Guainía, municipality of Inírida, is a region quite far from the country, so it is impossible to reach by land. To reach the Cerros de Mavecure must first go to Puerto Inírida by air, it is recommended to start your trip in the city of Bogota. After arriving at Puerto Inírida you must embark on a boat service that you must contact and hire beforehand, as it will be difficult to find this service without a previous contract. The boat will take you to Remanso, the town at the base of the Mavecure Hills. Keep in mind that this service is a little expensive, it is advisable to make this trip in group.

GEOGRAPHY AND CLIMATE IN MAVECURE HILLS

Mavecure Hills have an average temperature of 27°C. The traveler should have comfortable clothing for hot climates, shoes for hiking, sunscreen and insect repellent. It is recommended to be vaccinated against yellow fever before traveling to the Mavecure Hills.

ATTRACTIONS IN MAVECURE HILLS

This tourist destination has a great attraction. These enormous rocks known as Tepuyes are some of the oldest geological formations on the planet, offering an imposing landscape that combines with the river and its base full of vegetation. The beauty of this place goes beyond, the tranquility it offers and the purity of the air will make you want to return.

One of the main plans in the Mavecure Hills is to climb the tepuyes, it is a rather difficult ascent, but getting to the top and seeing the beauty of the Amazon rainforest will be worth it.

In the place, the fauna does not present great variety, however, you will be able to find armadillos and gallinazos. In the Mavecure Hills you will find the representative flower of Inírida that bears this name “Flor de Inírida”, a reddish colored species endemic to this region that grows near the Inírida and Guainía rivers.

In the Inírida River, which is located at the foot of the hills, the tourist can do sport fishing, remember to protect and not alter the ecosystems.

In this region of the country there are indigenous communities, you can interact with them, get to know their culture and respectfully listen to their stories and cosmogonies, remember that this is a sacred place for them, therefore, respect is demanded with the community as with the landscape and the ecosystem in general.

In the hills of Mavecure you will not find hotels, however, it is possible to camp. Bring your tent and camping equipment and food reserves for the night.

To leave Inírida airport, a fee of $26,000 COP is required. You must carry the cash since you will not find ATMs or dataphones there.
