HOW TO GET TO CHICAQUE PARK?

Parque Chicaque is an ecological reserve located southwest of Bogotá, in the municipality of San Antonio de Tequendama, ideal for tourism in Cundinamarca. On weekends the park offers transportation to the entrance of the park, the buses leave from Soacha, so you should arrive at the station of Transmilenio Terreros, go out through the bridge on the left, when you get off the bridge you will see Servientrega, at this point you can ask about the buses that go to the park Chicaque.

During the week you should take a bus to Soacha and get off at the gas station “El Altico”. There you will find the buses of the company COOMOFU that have as destination Funza- Mosquera, you must indicate to the driver that you are going to the Chicaque curve. When you are in Chicaque curve you must make a journey of approximately 40 minutes on foot (3 kilometers), because in this place there is no means of transport that goes to the entrance of the park.

GEOGRAPHY AND CLIMATE IN CHICAQUE PARK

The zone covers an area of 300 hectares that are between 2,000 and 2,700 meters above sea level, with an average temperature of 16°C. It is recommended that you wear warm clothes, a cape and waterproof boots since the park is a cloud forest.

ATTRACTIONS IN CHICAQUE PARK

Chicaque Park is one of the most attractive destinations for tourists, since it has more than 18 kilometers of terrain for hiking. The park is home to species of birds and mammals that are an event for visitors. This natural reserve focused on nature conservation has 7 different types of forests and protects a variety of flora species. The park is very attractive because if you visit it you will be in permanent contact with nature and with the purity of the air far from the city and you will not get tired of seeing the green of its mountains. The park, in addition to all this, offers different services so that you can fully enjoy your visit.

WHAT TO DO IN CHICAQUE PARK?

From the moment you get off the bus at the Chicaque bend, a whole expedition begins. In the park you will be able to walk, climb, and get to know the fauna and flora. The park offers you different activities to do, for example, you can go around the park on horseback or on a mini-hike depending on which areas of the park you want to visit. In the park the most interesting activities are tree climbing and ziplining, and what better than to experience adventure in the midst of trees and the green of the mountains?

Without a doubt you should spend a night in the park, either camping, in the hotel rooms or the “nest”, because it is a great experience to spend the night in the middle of trees and the imposing and clean nature of the park, besides admiring the cloudy landscape is a very pleasant experience.
Apart from everything else, in the park there is a 70 meter high waterfall that is accompanied by water deposits that lead to the Chicaque and Velez Ravines which, in essence, run through the park decorating it with peace and tranquility.

GASTRONOMY IN CHICAQUE PARK

Chicaque Park is equipped with two restaurants that offer breakfast, lunch and dinner, so if you are going to spend the night in the park you should not worry about what to eat. The first restaurant is called Arboloco and the second is called El Refugio and is located in the lower part of the park. It is important to note that this is the restaurant for campers and visitors who stay overnight in the park.

WHERE TO STAY IN PARQUE CHICAQUE?

The experience in Parque Chicaque is complete, because the park is equipped with four different ways to spend the night in the middle of the trees. First, you can spend the night in one of the two camping areas that the park offers:

Porter’s lodge: In this area there is a bathroom and shower service. It is essential that you bring your tent, as there is no rent. You must also bring the implements for food preparation and, likewise, the food you are going to eat. It has an area for bonfires.

El Refugio Zone: Located inside the park, it has bathrooms, hot showers and television. It is not allowed to make fires. Camping in this area includes a buffet breakfast at the El Refugio restaurant.

The Park has cabins located around the Refugio. They are very comfortable and quiet cabins with private bathroom, hot water, fireplace, balcony and hammock.

The third option, and even more interesting, is to spend the night in the “Nests” that the park has designed for tourists. These Nests are huts situated high up in the trees. There are two nests in the park:

Tanager’s Nest: it is located 7 minutes from the Refuge and 8 meters from the ground. It can accommodate 4 people, has a private bathroom, a double bed and a single bed.

Roblegrande Nest: It is located in the oak forest at an altitude of 25 meters. Accommodation in this tree house includes breakfast at the Refugio Restaurant, mattress, sleeping bag and awning. It has capacity for 6 people. It is important to clarify that to request this nest you must ask for a guide.

The last option is to spend the night at Hostal El Refugio which has a capacity for 35 people, the rooms are equipped with double beds and cabins. They do not have a private bathroom.
